Kinetic Motors is set to launch gearless scooters from its joint venture
with Taiwan-based Sang Yang Motors (SYM) under the brand name Kinetic SYM
Flyte, with the first product slated to hit the market in the next one
month.
The JV plans to launch two new models for India market, aimed at young
college girls. It has invested Rs 15 crore for setting up this new
assembly line.
We plan to launch the first gearless scooterette from our SYM JV in six
weeks, to be made at our Pithampura facility, Kinetic Motors MD Sulajja
Firodia said.
Kinetic SYM - Flyte, which would sport a price tag of around Rs 40,000,
has a localisation content of 90%. The company aims to sell 2,000 units of
this model per month to begin with, and gradually touch 8,000 units per
month.
The new model would compete with models (100cc and below) like Scooty Pep
from TVS Motors and Hero Honda Pleasure. Around 40,000 gearless scooters
are sold every month in the two-wheeler market.
The second model from this JV is expected to hit the roads in the next 12
months.
Commenting on the slowdown in the sales of two-wheelers, Motwani said, In
the two-wheeler category, mainly the sales of motorcycles have taken a hit
and the gearless models have not felt the impact very much as only 35% of
the sales happen through finances.
Kinetic had sold around 25,000 units of its 4-stroke models last year.
The company also plans to launch a new model, Euro, from its Italjet
platform in the next two months. This is one of seven models it plans to
launch in alliance with Italian two-wheeler maker Italjet.
Kinetic, which spends an average Rs 20 crore on advertising and marketing,
has roped in actor Bipasha Basu as its brand ambassador for one year.
